Steven Maubin
Steven Maubin here, one half of the world famous part three podcast, live from New Jersey. And today we have some great guests all walks of life, but one thing in common we all love. The greatest game on earth part three podcast.
Stephen
Let's fucking go.
Steven Maubin
Stephen. Marvin.
Oh, my goodness.
Stephen
Let's get right.
Put him down for the birdie dog.
Steven Maubin
Josh, the bit outside, gang.
Somebody give me your fucking puffin.
Poured the putt in.
And we are back with another one of our friends, my man, Andrew Haynes. Welcome to the part three podcast, buddy.
Andrew Haynes
What's good? Thanks for having me on.
Josh
What's going on, brother? Pleasure, man. Appreciate you coming on. That's our golf clap, by the way.
Andrew Haynes
I like that.
Josh
Just tell me, man. I keep hearing about his app, bro, that you, like, you helped or invent or slash going with, like, what is it about? I keep hearing about it. It's gonna help my game. So talk to me about it.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah, so it's called fair game, and it was started by three guys. I'm the first employee. I'm the creative director there. So I do a lot of the design and marketing and stuff. But the three guys who started it, it's funny, like, two of them are from New York, one of them's from Australia. So it's Adam Scott, the golfer who just got into the US Open this week, which is dope. So he's down there playing, practicing. Now, the other two guys, a guy named Ben Clymer, who's, like, big in the watch community, started a company called Hodinkee. The other guy named Eric, he's kind of, like, big in the digital ad space. So the three of them got together and said, hey, let's make something dope in golf. They brought me on board to kind of, like, build the creative. And I think, in a nutshell, what we're trying to do was it's kind of like a very ambitious plan. We want to build the world's largest digital network of golfers that does everything and everything. And over time, we're trying to, like, add layers where first download the app, it's free. You know, nobody wants to pay for apps anymore. It should just be easy.
Get on there, play games with your friends, have fun, and then in time, you know, I want to be able to fly to London and, like, find ten guys on there and find a game and, like, link up and things like that. I think that social media is great in a lot of ways, but I think sometimes there's too many things happening on Insta. There's too many things happening on TikTok. It's for us, it's just like, this is just a place for golf. So play games, do your thing, meet people.
We just launched our tournament software last week@pinehurstgolf.com. dot. We're working on that. We're going to roll that out soon. But basically, we want to build this thing where you can do everything in your golf life in one place.
Steven Maubin
And you have live scoring today in the tournament.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah. So we're live scoring today. We can see some people playing. Let's see how we doing.
Steven Maubin
That live scoring thing's tricky in the tournaments. I don't know really how I feel about it. Cause you can see live. So if you see, oh, they're eight under. It's like, all of a sudden now I'm nine under.
You know what I mean?
Andrew Haynes
Yeah. It's like, yeah, some guys are even. Here's the thing. So some people are like, some tournaments are like, you know what we want people to see, and some of them we don't. So you have the option. Yeah, because you're right. Because in a stroke, play, like a serious tournament, you don't want to know that that guy's. He's up to and you got two to play. Because all of a sudden. Oh, birdie. Oh, eagle on 17. That's convenient. Yeah. And I think for us, it's like everybody plays different, and that's cool. We want to be able to have a tool that allows you to play your way.
Steven Maubin
And so I have it on my phone. I downloaded it early, and I get pin notifications. Like, junior is starting a match play round at, you know, grove 23.
Josh
Correct.
Steven Maubin
So it's like, that's a part of it, right? You can kind of follow your homies and see how they're playing.
Andrew Haynes
See how they're playing. See when they tee off, hop in the chat, talk shit.
Josh
Oh, that's dope.
Andrew Haynes
See how they're doing. So I'm like, yo, like, make sure you. Make sure you par seven, because I think sometimes when you're at your desk and your boys are playing, you want to feel like you're part of that round. So, like, little features like that add value as well.
Josh
That's dope.
Steven Maubin
I got a question. How did you go from being a creative and a what? Creative director, art director, all that stuff? What got you into the creative field of the golf world? Because you're doing other stuff other than. Yeah, this, right.
Andrew Haynes
It's. Oh, well, this is like my full time job. Now. This is funny. I've like, been working in New York for the longest. I went to school for graphic design, studied advertising. I was working in agencies and stuff in New York, and these guys hit me up. I was the credit director in an agency within a VC firm. Like, I was good. I was working on beverages and stuff like that. And they're like, we want to do this thing for golf. And I was like, you know what? Let me give this thing a. Give a crack. And it's been about two years. Been a lot of fun.
I think, for me, the way that I approach is that it's not about thinking like golf, but just bringing outside thinking into the game of golf, making it really simple, easy to use, modern, clean, kind of like putting all the things I've learned, not working in golfer and bringing that perspective into the game. It's been a lot of fun being.
Josh
A creative director and doing, and being in that space to coming to being a golfer. Cause I'm assuming, obviously, I'm assuming you play.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah, I try to hit golf balls. I'm like a twelve.
Josh
Okay.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah.
Josh
But you see, that in itself lets me know that you play together.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah. Oh, I'm obsessed. Right.
Josh
So when you bring it from that creative director side to the actual golf space, like, how do you feel? Like, is the base more athletes? Is it more tech? Like, where's, where's your consumer market at?
Andrew Haynes
I think our core consumer is.
I would think about it this way. Like, I'm sure when Steve jobs invented the iPhone, he had this idea, like, you know, my core consumer is this, like, I don't know, California guy into design or whatnot. I think for us, it's like, how do we build something that everybody can use? So some 22 year old kid that just got into the game or a 55 year old old cat that's a member at, you know, sleepy hollow. Why not?
We think that, like, there's a way to build something that everybody can use. It's easy and simple, so it's kind of universal. I mean, that sounds like a cop out answer, but I think there's no reason why you can't build something that everybody can use and also find a way to use it in their way. I think in golf, and you guys are probably familiar with a lot of these groups, there's a lot of kind of, like, clicks in the game. Like, this group rolls this way, these guys do it this way. That's fine for us. It's like, we're not trying to invent another golf clique. It's like, come on here and do your thing your way. I think in time, we're going to add more layers where we want clubs to be able to fully function.
Get off of slack, get off of Facebook channels, get out of that weird chat room. Like, I'm in a chat with, like, 60 guys. I don't know any of their names. I just see a bunch of phone numbers, and we're just talking about golf. There's no reason why that thing can't happen on fair game where you can see the guy, see their handicap, see where the members at, and just be able to connect and do all that stuff in one place. So, yeah, we're just trying to simplify the game.
Josh
Yeah, I like it from that aspect because, like, my dad. My dad and my brother played growing up, and I didn't play at all, and I play now, and neither one of them playd, obviously. Dad is a dad. And he's like, man, I wish I could just, like, check up and see how you playing and see, especially if I'm playing. I play a lot of games, like Ray Allen in Florida and our crew, and then sometimes we play with Gary Sheffield. And, you know, I'm pretty sure he would love to be like, you know what? Let me see how my son is measuring up to so and so or even just to his boys to see how well he's playing or whatever else. I mean, Steve contested, as he has a son who's obviously into the game. Like, that'll be dope. You see Remy playing against one of the homies from over pebbles.
Steven Maubin
He's on one, too. He's on, like, 18 birdies. Is that right? So he does do some app called 18 birdies. And then he told me that one. So this is just like, I hear him. So my nephew in Virginia, they're competitive. He's a little three years older, but Remy's better than him, but they're a bit competitive with each other. So when Remy posts his score, he'll hit me. He'll come and be like, oh, Liam was just lurking on my page. Like, Liam checking to see what he shot.
Andrew Haynes
Exactly.
Steven Maubin
So it's like, oh, swish is playing. And then, like, a few hours later.
Josh
Go back on and be like, what, this motherfucker? Shoot.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah.
Steven Maubin
Oh, fuck. He shot a 73. So it's kind of, like, risky, you know? It's like everyone asks me when I go if I'm playing with people who bat. How you been playing?
Josh
I ain't playing very well.
Steven Maubin
Last thing I'm gonna say is, I'm on fire, right? What's the bet, then? I'm gonna.
I'll lose on the first tee.
Josh
Talk like that, for sure.
Andrew Haynes
But that layer of information and seeing your friends play and hanging them on, and it encourages you to get out there. Your boy goes low, you want to go play, which I think is 100%.
Josh
Even if you can't go play. You working on it?
Andrew Haynes
Exactly.
Josh
You looking in the mirror, trying to figure something out.
Andrew Haynes
I gotta get to the reins.
Josh
That's dope. That's a great concept, man. I'm glad they figured that out.
Swagger Vance
Yeah.
Andrew Haynes
But, yeah, we're getting there slowly, layer by layer. But it's been a lot of fun so far. Thanks for having us out.
Steven Maubin
And how's it feel when you got a legend like Adam Scott rocking the logo you designed on his bag, the US Open this week?
Andrew Haynes
It's wild.
Steven Maubin
It's crazy, right?
Andrew Haynes
Adam's got the bag. I mean, it's amazing. He's the coolest guy. Like, literally the nicest dude on the planet, obviously. Amazing golfer, amazing swing. He's also really involved in the creative. Like, I was on a call with him last week. We are going over feedback about this page and this design and how can we make this part faster?
We're a small team. There's five of us, but everyone is involved in every step of the work, which is cool.
Josh
That's dope. I was gonna say it's gotta be fun and unique to have somebody like him who just has such an impact on what he's involved in, because I see, like, some of the things he does with mirror and his wedges and his irons. I mean, like, in some of his driver, you always hear somewhat of a techie he is with his equipment and how serious he takes it. And it's like, it's really dope to see somebody who really cares about their passion and really involved with the creative side as well as just the performance side of it.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah, he loves. He loves golf. He just absolutely loves golf, even though it's his job, which is funny. Like, I'm a designer. I love design.
I don't think I love design as much as I love golf. Like, I love what I do, and I can kind of, like, you know, I can design in my head in Photoshop or whatever, but golf. But golf is different. So for him to be able to, like, do that as his job and then still love it the way that I do, I think, is really cool.
Steven Maubin
Best, though, we've been asking our guests today one question. Why do you golf?
Andrew Haynes
Golf is my therapy. In a way where living in New York, living in Queens, the grind is nonstop. Even when I worked in advertising, the days were long and it's just working in clients and projects and it just nonstop. And I think golf for me was always this escape where it's just me and my thoughts and problem solving and understanding why am I doing this and that even when I'm playing good or bad. It's taken me a lot of years to realize that even when the game is not where I want it to be. Like I played yesterday, approach game was trash, absolutely trash. And just being thoughtful of like what am I doing and the why and understanding, like, okay, well, you didn't practice this week, you didn't do this, you didn't do that. You're too quick with your arms. That's why that happened. And also starting to realize that some days you're gonna play bad and that's fine. And also some days you're gonna play good and you're gonna have a good whole bad hole. Like I birdied the last. I was like, that was cool, nice little snake and putt went in, felt good. Nice way to finish. And then go to this, go to the Rangers week and try it again on Saturday. So that's it.
Steven Maubin
Well, thank you for coming on, my man. We appreciate it. Keep it up.
Andrew Haynes
For sure. Appreciate it guys.
Steven Maubin
See you out there.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah.
Josh
What's going on everybody? This is part three podcast. I am here representing prize picks majors. Coming us open the open.
Come on down, come see us. We got some pics for you. You know, pinning on putts, drives from all your favorite golfers, use promo code par three and come check us out.
Steven Maubin
And just like that we are back in Alpine, New Jersey with the one and only drez from the black sheep.
Stephen
What's going on brother?
Good to be here, good to be here. That's what's up.
Josh
It's nice to meet you, bro.
Stephen
It's a pleasure as well, no doubt, sincerely.
Josh
Been in a lot of circles together without knowing exactly who one another is per se. So it was a pleasure to finally meet you.
Stephen
Finally. Sit down and yeah, no doubt, kick it for real. And I'm hearing good stuff about that golf game. For real? For real.
Yeah, I hear you do things. No doubt.
Josh
I'm trying man.
Stephen
That's what's up.
Josh
I got a great teacher over here.
Stephen
Oh fellas, this dude over here, yo, I done seen him do nothing but get better and better and better. He was already good, you know what I'm saying? Like, yo, kind of a killer out here now.
Steven Maubin
Sometimes. I played with a pro golfer the other day. He said, how you play? And I said, I'm just as good as you. At least 14 holes.
At least 14. I'm just the same as you, homie. The other four I'm not sure about.
I make four doubles, you make four birdies, but sound like you beat me by twelve.
Josh
That's it, right? Exactly.
Steven Maubin
Junior 1314 holds. You're just as good as Tony Finau, man. It's just those other four or five.
Josh
Where we get in trouble, 100%, and trouble is real big.
Stephen
I'm probably about seven holes.
Steven Maubin
Seven holes.
Josh
You know, that's part of. How long you been playing?
Stephen
About 15 years now. What are you understanding? Yeah, I can get the handicapped down to single digits when I'm playing, when I have a good season. The thing about living in New York is that it's seasonal. You know what I'm saying? So unless I'm traveling, I don't get a chance to play it year round. But every year, you're picking up the sticks and you starting again from where you left off. You trying to. Trying to build on that and get a little better.
Josh
100%, man. That's where I'm at now. I'm back home. It's the summertime. I'm back home.
Stephen
Same, man.
Josh
I got the club. It's like the access is easier, you know what I'm saying? It's harder down there in Florida because I'm not a member anywhere. So I'm back up in Jersey. It's just like I can practice whenever I want. Now I got my home club, shit like that. So when my game come around, that's like the perfect moment.
Stephen
Yeah. When you're playing and, you know, saying, consistently playing and you hit and then, you know, when, you know, you. When you dialed in, man, there's nothing like it, but. And then it's almost like the next day, the very next day, you might come out and it's like you never hit a ball before. Crash again.
Steven Maubin
So rewind. 14 years ago, you weren't golfing, right? Your entire life. Up until then, you weren't golfing, right. So I guess the first thing is, what held you back from playing golf those first however many years until 14 years ago? 15 years ago?
Stephen
Well, if we're gonna be candid.
Steven Maubin
Yeah, let's be candid.
Stephen
What kept you out of it?
When I was young, if you were walking by me with some golf clubs, I probably would have thought you a little suspect.
Steven Maubin
Yeah.
Stephen
You know what? I'm saying, like, you know, like, honestly, I might have snickered, literally, but that was just me being an asshole. No, saying, as in a singular, you know, saying, as a singular. And. And not having the.
Josh
You're not alone.
Stephen
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, just. Just young kids are assholes, you know, saying, and, you know, like, that's just what it is sometimes. It's just that simple, you know what I'm saying? Kids are assholes. And sometimes I was an asshole, you know what I'm saying, as a kid. So, you know, like, it was just something I viewed as. Because it was privilege, you know, saying it wasn't. It wasn't something. Wherever I could go across the street with a ball in play, you know what I'm saying? Or me and my friends had access to, you know what I'm saying? So before it could look down on me, I looked down on it, you know what I'm saying? That's some bullshit, you know what I'm saying? And kept it moving. And as I grew older, come to find that I was dressing for the game way before I played it, you know what I'm saying?
Just as a mode of operation. And as a mode of operation, I kind of always dressed to a ten, you know what I'm saying? I was always dressed to a ten. Whatever it was. I could get in, you know what I'm saying? That's just as a mode of operation, as a man, as a young man, even. So, I was already golf, you know, there I was ready already. Yeah.
And I bumped into the game on a first date, you know what I'm saying? I met a girl coming out of a parking lot in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was going to her car, and she was beyond beautiful.
I try to push up, walk into a car. She's going home. I'm coming in the club. I walk into a car, talking. It's her birthday. She doesn't like the club. I'm like, well, what do you want to do for your birthday? She was like, I want to go golfing tomorrow morning.
Steven Maubin
And hence, you're a golfer.
Stephen
Told me the golf course, told me the time I was there, I rented some clubs.
Now, I was enough of an athlete that the very first time I swung a club, I sent the ball probably about 200 yards straight down the middle of the fairway.
The rest of the day was nothing like that.
But the very first time I swung a club, I put the ball about 200 yards straight out, middle of the fairway, and was stuck right from that moment, you know what I'm saying. And it was like, the rest of it has been me trying to get good at this game that, you know, I lost the girl years ago, but I kept the game, you know what I'm saying? And, you know, I'm grateful forever meeting her.
Steven Maubin
So that was in North Carolina?
Stephen
Yeah, yeah, sure.
Steven Maubin
And you went to high school in North Carolina. Cause when we went to Pinehurst, you did a show in your home.
Stephen
Yeah, no doubt. Ran to Fayetteville, North Carolina, went to ee Smith High School. Word up. I got. I'm from New York, but my stepfather got.
Went into the army, got stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, which is in Fayetteville. So I went to high school in Fayetteville, North Carolina. School called ee Smith that had a golf team. You know what I'm saying? And I remember this girl named Michelle Twaddell. She played on the golf team, had curly hair, this freckled face. This freckled face girl. I remember. Cause she. Me and her were cool, and she was an athlete as well. She played basketball as well. And I remember her playing, and that was the beginning of me thinking that the game might be aight. Cause she played it, you know what I'm saying? And you know. But I always kind of had an eye for the game. And like I said, the very first time I swung a club, what I did was I imagined what a golf club, what a golf swing looks like. And that's what I did. I just imagined what a golf swing looks like, and it looked like I had been playing damn near, you know what I'm saying? Cause I didn't. You know what I'm saying? Like, I just imagined what a golf swing looks like. And I literally just did that. You know what I'm saying? And literally been trying to get better at just doing that, you know, since then.
Steven Maubin
That's amazing story. I never heard that one.
Stephen
All right. That's right.
Steven Maubin
So two ladies got you in the golf in a nutshell, just being young. And before that, you weren't fucking with it. And then after that, you tried once or twice. You get the feeling, the greatness, hitting it, and you're like, damn, I could do it, yo.
Stephen
And then, this is my word. Within six months, she couldn't beat me.
All right, all right, Ezra. Within six months, she couldn't beat me.
Josh
What?
Stephen
That's how I felt about it.
Josh
Why do you play golf?
Stephen
Oh, man.
Golf is.
Golf is you being honest with yourself.
You know what I'm saying? Golf is you being honest with yourself in a world that isn't honest, you know what I'm saying?
It's bug because you're, you know, like even the people that you might be playing with, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's real world situations on a golf course. And sometimes you're gonna fail, sometimes you're gonna fail horribly, but you gotta face the reality of it. Regroup, pick yourself up and show exactly who you are every stroke. You know what you're capable of. And if you don't do what you're capable of, then you're not doing what you came to do, you know what I'm saying?
Steven Maubin
Yeah.
Stephen
So, you know, like, so ultimately, you know, you wanna play this round. That's real honest and that is, and that's you at your best, you know what I'm saying? And you could deal with the bounces and this, that, and the third, as long as you executing and doing what you supposed to do, knowing what you know, you know how to do.
Yo, life is good from there, you know?
Steven Maubin
It's a great game, isn't it?
Stephen
Yeah, it's a beautiful game.
Steven Maubin
What about, what would you tell the people who aren't still looking at it like you used to, to look down at it before it can look down at them?
What's the advice?
Stephen
To look at this as a sport that everyone can play, that everyone can become really, really good at if you're willing to take a walk with yourself, you know what I'm saying? If you're willing to take a walk with yourself, this is a really great sport.
And it's something that I think, you know, like guys, girls, older, younger, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's really inclusive.
A lot of times I find in life that, you know, sometimes things, the perception of things aren't really what they really are, you know what I'm saying? Like a lot of times in life, human beings are like minded, you know what I'm saying?
And all of the other stuff is our other stuff, you know what I'm saying? Sometimes it's just that simple, yo, golf is something that I think is a test of who you are, of your ability, and it's just you getting closer to yourself and nature. It's a beautiful sport, you know what I'm saying? It's a really beautiful sport.
And you have to have integrity to play, you know what I'm saying? It makes you have certain things that make life better. And this is my word.
To cheat at golf is to cheat at life to a degree. And it might look good in the moment, but it doesn't hold up over time. You know what I'm saying?
Steven Maubin
Yeah.
Stephen
So, you know, to have integrity is everything. And to be authentically you is the best thing in the world. Even if your handicaps 40 30 2010, it doesn't matter. Be authentically you and embrace where you are and who you are and who you can be. You know what I'm saying? That's golf. Like, you know, like, it's dope, you know, if you're honest with it, you know what I'm saying? And there's nothing wrong with wherever you're at, because at the end of the day, that's where everyone has been. You don't get better without having been bad. You know what I'm saying? So everyone in golf has been exactly where I. You are every single person.
Steven Maubin
Yeah. I just think of that, like, you know, like, doing graffiti, right? Like, graffiti and such is like, everybody's a beginner, but not everybody's a toy, right? So it's the same thing. It's like, it doesn't matter if you're new to something. You can be new with it and have integrity, and you can be a stand up newcomer, right? Or you could be a toy and brag and act like you're better than you are and cheat and do a bunch of weird shit and spot jock and all that stuff, and you're a toy. But, like, not all graffiti artists are toys. Some are kings, you know? And that's based off of. So I just remember that saying. It's like, everyone's a beginner, but not everybody's a toy. So that's.
Stephen
And, you know, and the walk is real. Like, you know, like, you only get better by doing certain things, such in life, you know what I'm saying? Like, you, you know, like, you're gonna make your mistakes in life. There will be times when you lie to yourself in life, and you'll also have to deal with the ramifications of that. You know what I'm saying? And you're like, you'll grow to, oh, I don't want to do that ever.
Josh
Again one way or another.
Stephen
You know what I'm saying? Right, right. Like, you grow to become better. You know what I'm saying? And, you know, like, as we become better, it's almost like, you know, becoming a better golfer. Like, oh, you know, like, what's the sense in saying that? If that's not the reality, why would I? And then now you're looking at other people like, oh, okay, now you see everything a little bit more clear, clearly. And you understand where you stand as opposed to where others might. And it's not necessarily a judgment.
It's more of an affirm. An affirmation. You know what I'm saying? Like, I know who I am in this world, and I'm cool with that. Yeah, I did that. That's what I did.
I'm proud of it, but I ain't gonna do that again.
Steven Maubin
You're glad it happened. It needed to happen to get you where you are today.
Stephen
Exactly.
Steven Maubin
And it's the same thing when you go play golf. Life is very similar.
When you go in the woods and you hit it in the woods and you say, oh, I'm gonna hit it in between this little ass spot and you over here, cocky. I'm gonna hit it through there. I'm gonna hit it through there, hit the tree, and the ball goes behind you.
Stephen
Now with that, twice, you know what I'm saying?
Steven Maubin
Sometimes you gotta chip out some real talk.
Stephen
Sometimes you gotta take your medicine.
Steven Maubin
Miracles in the Bible.
Stephen
Sometimes you gotta take your medicine. Simple. Sometimes for real. For reals. Like, you know, like, you know, have you ever been in a situation where you literally have to hit backward?
You know what I'm saying? Like, sometimes that's just what it is.
Josh
Yeah.
Stephen
You know what I'm saying? Like, sometimes that's just what it is. Like, you know, like, you. As much spin as you can imagine, you know what I'm saying? Coming around it. It's not gonna happen. You have to hit backwards and then you can go forward again. And sometimes in life, the same thing. Sometimes in life you have to go backwards so you can go forward again. Word up. You put yourself in a position where. Whoa, wait a minute. Let me step back, assess the situation.
Go forward. You know what I'm saying? That's golf.
Josh
All right, facts.
Steven Maubin
What's up with Wendell? What's going on with this project you're doing?
Stephen
Yeah, I'm real happy for Wendell. Big shout out to Wendell Haskins of OTGC. You know what I'm saying? His 25 year anniversary of his tournament. I happen to be the only person in the 25 year history of his tournament to get a hole in one in the tournament. My word.
Steven Maubin
How many you got?
Stephen
I only got one.
Steven Maubin
That was a good time to have it, wasn't it?
Stephen
And my foursome won that year by one stroke, you know what I'm saying? So that made it, you know, it was serious. It was real serious business there. Shooting out of Florida to shoot a golf incentive with him. You know what I'm saying? That's something that celebrates the tournament 25 years, which is a big salute, you know what I'm saying? But a crew for a crew of young cats that look like us, very diverse, you know what I'm saying? And very much together and very positive, all kind of movers and shakers in their own industry, you know what I'm saying? To a degree. And trying to help those, you know, we're welcoming youngblood into, you know, to try to be an example, like, yeah, little things like this, like, you know, a black sheep head cover, you know what I'm saying? You know, for golf that, you know, like, that speaks to, you know, I design that myself, and that speaks to this, you know, just the passion, the love, you know, like the wanting to belong, you know what I'm saying? Like, to something that I've been, you know, advocating for a little bit. But anyway, I'm going down to Florida to shoot a commercial with Wendell, and I'm gonna have a bunch of friends, I'm hoping, amongst me now, even making little cameos in it, and it's really a real cool look. And Wendell's really just been a tremendous ambassador for the game of golf, you know what I'm saying? Sincerely, really has.
He's one of the first cats when I got back to New York, after me being introduced in Carolina, when I got to New York, he was one of the first cats that really pulled me in and, you know, and gave me crew and, you know, like, so I've been there from the beginnings of him doing this probably maybe the second or third year of his tournament. We've been kind of fam since. So I've seen his walk and I've seen all the things that he's done and how even. Not even just in the game, but in the clothing lines and making sure that there's diversity in the game, being inclusive and even being a strict follower and adhering of the rules of the game and how important they are and the structure of the game itself, you know what I'm saying? Don't get twisted. There's days when we have our days, but there's days when you have to play. You have to be able to play on all courts, you know what I'm saying? And golf is one of those game as well. You'll go to a country club somewhere that's not your friends, you know what I'm saying? And you have to be able to come in, you know, shirt, pants, you know, and polished, and there's a walk to it, you know, and that's understanding life as well. There's a walk to life. You can't come in every room like it's your room, you know what I'm saying?
You know, you gotta understand that about life.
Josh
Such as golf dropping jewels over here.
Stephen
Ah, no doubt.
Steven Maubin
Yeah. Damn, I could barely speak. He's hitting us with so much.
Thanks for coming on, bro.
Stephen
I mean, the parallels to me, you know what I'm saying? Like, you know, like that. But that's what I do, you know, that's. I'm, I guess maybe in another, you know, life, I'm a philosopher of sort, you know what I'm saying? Like, you know, I'm an Mc. I write kind of. I observe, you know, I pay attention, you know, saying that helps me to be able to do what I do, you know what I'm saying? And I correlate what it is all the time to what I see, you know what I'm saying? So, you know, I mean, I want to say biggest thank you to you and a pleasure to meet you, but, yo, you as well. I've seen, you know, like, you doing it and growing and blossoming season after season and even in between season. I mean, you know, your family is beautiful, your heart is tremendous, and you know what I'm saying? And you're wise to a fault, you know what I'm saying? You surround yourself with beautiful people, and I'm proud to be one of the ones that get, come kick it with you on occasion, man.
Steven Maubin
Let's go.
Stephen
Big salute to you, man.
Steven Maubin
We did. We did good in Pinehurst.
Stephen
Yeah, yeah. We had a good time.
Steven Maubin

Stephen
We definitely did.
Steven Maubin
Yeah.
Stephen
Right. We definitely. Yeah. And hopefully we get a chance to get out and hit some rounds, man.
Josh
Absolutely.
Stephen
Yeah.
Steven Maubin

Stephen
Yeah, he could have a few. You could definitely have a few. It's all up. Word up.
Steven Maubin
All right, we'll see y'all in a minute.
Stephen
All right. Cheers.
Steven Maubin

Josh
I love your own prop bad.
Swagger Vance
You taking all the. Jr, you're not a good friend.
Thank you, Jr. Now, you missed a couple. I did. I did hit a couple 300s, though.
Josh
300. What?
Swagger Vance
Drops a word, like, when I get around on it, you know, it go. But I just don't do it consistently.
Steven Maubin
Your drive was first?
Stephen
Yeah, by 30 yards.
Swagger Vance
I didn't say that.
Josh
I just asked you that.
Swagger Vance
You just gave me a. I just said what I did. I didn't ask if you asked you. Yo, what about that time at TPC that I'll drive you there.
How about that? I drove him there.
Josh
Yeah, you did. Yeah, you did.
Swagger Vance
And then put it on the green end, too. It's on video.
Josh
What happened after that?
Swagger Vance
I birdied it.
We got it on tape.
Josh
Let me sit. You don't remember?
Swagger Vance
You said, nice bird, kid.
Stephen
You don't remember? And the guy was there.
Swagger Vance
I hit the three wood all the time.
Josh
You three putt it for par?
Swagger Vance
No, never. You know I own three putt. You know who I am.
Stephen
Cut it out.
Josh
Oh, you've been balling now you own three putt?
Swagger Vance
No, no, no. That's what I'm gonna do. Putt is the best thing that I got going, all right? And I'm gonna hang on to that, all right? You're not gonna take that away from me.
Josh
Puttin'some shit ain't going to it, bro. Cause it come and go.
Swagger Vance
All the other shit in between is where it gets sketchy.
Josh
Come on back. Swag.
Swag.
You have about 210 in? You gonna have about 210 in either?
Swagger Vance
Like a.
Josh
What's that six j drop where I'm at?
Swagger Vance
Downhill six iron, huh? Downhill six iron down.
Josh
It's what, 210? Yeah, right, motherfucker. We out here. You see us down the fairway.
Steven Maubin
Fairway cart. Big fairway cart.
Swagger Vance
Because I think mine, I don't like where I'm at. Right here to fire the hips off a slant. Junior, we're going to play juniors. Even though it's behind mine. We'll play juniors.
Yeah, I like this. I like this right here. Yeah, I like that. I like that. You guys go ahead. Junior, we're going to play yours. Cause I like the way it lined. It was better for my feet. This one, I'm on a slant. You know what I'm saying? I didn't like that. So we'll play yours, even though mine is inferring. Don't even worry about it.
Josh
We can play whichever one you like.
Swagger Vance
Nah, just play that one, bro.
Stephen
Just play yours.
Josh
Why you hang on first. Go ahead.
Swagger Vance
I'm going first.
Josh
You doing all the talking with no club in your hand.
Swagger Vance
That's what I do, talk, bro. That's what I'm here to do. I'm here to talk.
Beautiful day for golf. Beautiful day for content.
Josh
It's a beautiful day.
Swagger Vance
Oh, that wasn't it. Watch out.
Told you I didn't like the slope on the side going down like that.
Josh
I feel you.
Ah.
Swagger Vance
Still a good ball. It's a good ball.
It's a good flight. I caught mine on the tour. I didn't really come around, but it was good, though. It was still a good ball nonetheless.
Josh
The fuck outta here.
What is it?
Stephen
Good ball, yo. It's better than my ball.
Steven Maubin
Fuck.
Stephen
Shit.
Swagger Vance
I'm giving you a come. Shut the fuck up.
Look at the divot. Look at the guy taking care of the course.
Josh
It's a nice course, man. I like to keep it in good condition.
Swagger Vance
As you should. That's what makes you such a.
So nobody can talk bad about you around me.
Josh
I appreciate it, man.
Swagger Vance
This is where I come to life anyway. On a green, on a putt jar. So tell me, in life and golf, right?
Josh
Yeah.
Swagger Vance
As now as you embark on this second journey in your life of taking over some shit, right.
What would you say are your takeaways or, like, the importance of golf in your life right now?
Josh
I mean, the golf is extremely important to my life. They asked me, I think it's kids, my relationship and golf.
Swagger Vance
I live the same, same life, the triple track. Same as me.
Andrew Haynes
Yeah.
Swagger Vance
Golf work?
Josh
Yes, sir.
Stephen
If I were six three, I'd be dead right now.
Yeah. Yeah.
Swagger Vance
They were talking in my backswing.
Steven Maubin
Yeah.
Swagger Vance
It's fucked up. These fucking assholes.
Stephen
Yeah.
Swagger Vance
Fucked up. It was Liv. I'm more of a PGA guy. My bad.
Josh
I'm more of a PGA guy. He's a piece of shit, bro.
Swagger Vance
Come down, come down. Keep going, keep going. Hit the hill, hit the hill.
Josh
Ah.
Swagger Vance
Little light on there.
Josh
Curling.
Swagger Vance
What happened?
Josh
I go over there. Curling.
Swagger Vance
I thought I was going to catch some speed at the top.
Steven Maubin
Oh, yeah.
Swagger Vance
That's why it was like, yeah.
I mean, if I would have had that right up there, I'd have been good.
See, that's going past.
That was actually from there.
Josh
That's why once it gets up, it's not gonna turn as much. You think. It just goes.
Yeah.
Swagger Vance
People out there don't do what. What swag advance did. I didn't find my authentic swing. And I paid for it. Paid the price. But that's all right. Cause I'm still happy. Cause one shot at a time. That's what golf is about. It's about taking shots and taking the pain that comes with it. He does the talking, you know, I do the playing. It's all good. Thanks, Brian.
Cause we're a team and there's no I in team. So swag advance is all right.
Josh
Part three podcast Jr Smith here at Alpine, New Jersey.
Try the long drink headed in the fairway.
OMB Peezy
Hey, man, it's Omb peas and man. I'd like to send a special thank you to Stephen Melbourne, 300 man. Inviting me to the tournament, man. Game, bro.
I started picking up golf my first time playing. I was twelve years old.
My mom had a boyfriend. It was one of his good hobbies. And then they wouldn't let me go nowhere. Cause I was always bad in school. That was the only place I could go with him to the golf course. So I just ended up. I just ended up trying one day and hit a good ball. You know when you hit your first good ball and then just fell in love with it. You feel me? And it's a peaceful game. You feel me?
Like nature, water, lakes. Yeah, I love that shit.
My favorite club in the bay is like the nine nine. I love the nine nine. I don't know why, bro. And then I like the pitching wedge. It's fun.
Like anything with hair, eye coordination. I feel like I kind of got. I kind of got a little bit in me. You feel me?
Josh
Yeah.
OMB Peezy
That's a good one right there.
That was a good ball. That was a good ball. That was a good ball. That was a nice ball. I'm telling y'all, man, I came to play, man. What y'all came to do, huh?
Steven Maubin
