Hello, sunshine. I'm Alexi Lawless, and welcome to the State of the Union podcast. We look at the beautiful game on and off the field through the lens of red, white and blue colored glasses. Today's show is brought to you by Zillow agents Tours loans, homes, get home with zillow. This show will be talking, well, you know, yet another day, and it is yet another day.
And we are coming to you live Sunday. Oh, sorry. Monday. Gosh, they all blend together. Monday, June 17, following what is now our one, two, three, fourth day of these 2020 €4.
As we continue on into this amazing summer of soccer. Reminder, we'll be coming to you live after each and every day of euro action. And by the way, Copa America, which kicks off in a few days, we'll give you a wrap up and preview each and every day of what has happened and what is to come. But first, joining me as always, my friend, my colleague, my guiding light, David Mossey, a soccer savant and a fox soccer researcher and writer extraordinaire. Mossy, how you doing on this Monday, June 17, in the year 2024?
David Mossey
I'm doing well. Day four in the books, and you mentioned the Copa America that's coming tomorrow. We're actually going to rehearse the first show, the pregame for Argentina, Canada. Yep. I just was in the green room.
Alexi Lawless
So our good friend Carly Lloyd is on the scene and ready to go. She was getting some fittings there. When it comes to wardrobe, by the way, I'll talk a little bit more about wardrobe later on in the show. I have to ask you, because you never know when something's going to creep in. Have you watched or read anything or is it just nose to the grindstone and cranking it out?
David Mossey
I have not, but I'm told that you have. Well, the other night it was late and you get wired from these shows, and sometimes it's hard to go to sleep. And I pulled up a documentary that I think is on Netflix right now. It's called remembering Gene Wilder. You know who Gene Wilder is?
I do. Wonderful actor. Played, played Willy Wonka in kind of the seminal production of that from on film and just a kind of magical character. And it goes into how he got to where he was. Now, it's not a life full of controversy and drama, but that doesn't mean that it's not interesting.
Alexi Lawless
I think it was really well done and kind of tapped into the wonder that he had of the world, but also the wonder that he brought to acting and where he came from and where he went and all the way up to his passing. And just a true original and a wonderful actor by the looks of it, from this documentary. Also a really, really interesting and wonderful person. So I do recommend that remembering Gene Weiler. All right, should we light this candle, my friend?
David Mossey
Let's do it. Where shall we start? We're going to begin in Group E, where we had a stunning upset. In fact, if you subscribe to the FIFA rankings, it was the biggest upset in Euro's history. Belgium suffered a 10 defeat to Slovakia.
Ivan Franz with the goal. It came after a mistake by Jeremy Doku as Belgium tried to play out of the back. I'm sure you have some thoughts on that. Belgium had their share of chances. Romulukaku was quite wasteful.
And then when he did put the ball in the back, then he twice had ghouls ruled out by VAR, one for offsides and one late, controversially, for a handball by Opendoor in the buildup. And so it was not to be for Belgium. They go down 10. Yeah, I don't think anybody predicted this, but this tournament can throw up surprises and Cinderella types of moments. And certainly this qualifies at one whether you buy into the rankings or not.
Alexi Lawless
And oftentimes the rankings are what one makes of it and judges it one way or the other, and it can confirm or you can use it against your case. But in this case, I don't think that there's a lot of people, like I said, that saw this coming.
It was worthy in terms of what Slovakia did. They bend, but they do not break, break in this type of situation. To your point, when it comes to Belgium, they have no one to blame but themselves. And for those of you that are data wonks out there, it was like the XG was 1.92 for Belgium. Even just for Lukaku, it was 0.82.
In terms of the possibility and the potential for goals out there. And if you look at this game, Lukaku, I mean, he could have had five goals. There was even one that was taken away that was called offside, that if they went back and looked at it, I'm not sure that it would have been ultimately viewed as offside. But the point is that he got chance after chance. Even in the first two minutes he got a chance, that he puts that away.
I think it's a very, very different game. But the soccer gods were smiling upon Slovakia today and they ultimately took their chance, which was, let's be honest, a gift that was given to him by Belgium. And I think we're going to do something later on in the tournament that not just applies to euros, but also applies to Copa America and just applies to soccer in general. We talk about it a lot here about this phenomenon of playing out of the back. I'll talk a little bit more about it, but just in general, this is great for the tournament to have a moment like this.
But if you are looking at Belgium, and Belgium was in my top ten in terms of my power rankings here, this is a huge setback for a team that was hoping to put aside some of the failures of the past and bridge that gap of still having the Lukaku's and the De Bruyne's on the field, but also looking forward to that next generation. Domenico Tedescu's first loss on the Belgium bench. So interesting. You had a bigger issue with the first Lukaku goal being taken away. Gary Lineker was furious about the second one, the handball and appendix.
David Mossey
Did you have an issue with that one? Well, what was Gary Lanicker up in arms about? I mean, that it hit his hand and he benefited from it and they went back and VAR, it's, I've been told, let's get the call. Right. So that is the call, right?
Alexi Lawless
That would never have been called in the old, olden days, if you will. But now we live, you know, we're living in a VAR world, so I don't understand what he could possibly have a problem with it for other than it takes away a goal. And we all like goals. Yeah, I agree. I guess people don't like the rule, the idea that if it's an attacking player, then it doesn't matter if it was intentional or not.
David Mossey
Anytime the ball hits your arm, it's a handball. I guess people don't like that. I mean, yeah, I didn't have a problem with the calls today in this game, and again, if this was the only opportunity that they had, but he had plenty of opportunities to finish. And as I said on air, Lukaku, I love him as a player and he is a handful no matter what. And we've seen him in the past where he's been injured and not the best version of himself, and we thought we were going to get the best version and we still may as the tournament goes on.
Alexi Lawless
But today he had one job and he had the opportunity to do that job multiple times and he still didn't do it. And I know the soccer gods, they're fickle, but ultimately, with that guy up there, you hope that at some point he puts it in the back of the net. So this is absolutely a setback when it comes to Belgium. It throws the group into a real interesting, precarious situation for others. But this is kind of.
This is something to talk about, because up until then, it had been all of the favorites that, uh, that were winning. I even came on the air and I predicted that not only was Belgium going to win, but Belgium, uh, was going to score multiple goals and that we were going to see the first multiple goals score, because now we're up to, like, 26 goals with 26 different players now that have scored goals. And I was wrong, and I know a lot of people were wrong. It's actually 27, 27. Excuse me.
There you go. And Lukaku scored 14 times in qualifying, but fails to find the back of the net today. Uh, just to put some numbers on the rankings, Belgium or third? Slovakia, 48 people were trying to put into context how big of an upset this is. Killian Mbappe, who we're going to talk about in a minute, cause an uproar by saying that the euros are tougher to win than the World cup because it's more competitive, there aren't any bad teams, and while I wouldn't go as far as to say it's tougher to win, there's something to the fact that you don't have as many minnows in the euros, so there are very few results you're going to see that are going to be absolutely stunning.
David Mossey
Like a Saudi Arabia beating Argentina at the last World cup, or even a North Korea beating Italy all the way back in 1966, or even the US beating England in 1950. So you don't have upsets of that magnitude. But, yeah, by euro standards, I would agree that Slovakia beating Belgium is pretty momentous. And so Lukaku missing a bunch of sitters. I thought Jeremy Doku was actually good and kind of lived up to it, and he was one of the few bright spots when it comes to Belgium.
Alexi Lawless
When it comes to Kevin de Bruyne, I thought we expect great things from him. That was not a good game. Can I just mention the goal that ultimately was the decision maker. And we've talked a lot and like I said, we're going to do something about playing out of the back. And this phenomenon, it's not of late, it's been brewing now for the last ten years.
And you could argue that it's Spain's fault, or you can argue that it's pep's fault, or you can argue that it's Barcelona's fault or any number of teams, but playing out of the back today in the modern game is seen as romantic. It is seen as evolved. It is seen ultimately, let's be honest, to a lot of people, as beautiful and pretty soccer. And so when that's what we paint it with a lot of people out there, whether it's coaches or whether it's just teams in general, they want to play like that, there is a pressure to play like that. And I get it.
Because if and when you're successful playing out of the back, it can open up incredibly valuable advantages in both the space that opens up and the number advantages that you have. But the risk reward of playing out of the back only makes sense if you have the players to do it. Only makes sense if you have great players that are able to do it. And a lot of times nowadays, teams are doing it and they don't have the players to do it. And so it's kind of like, it's kind of like fashion mossy.
All right. You see something in a magazine and you see an advertisement and it looks awesome. And I got to wear that. I would look awesome in that. Well, what you really find out is that fashion oftentimes only looks good on models and ideals.
And when you get it home and you put it on, you say, well, this doesn't fit, and this doesn't look as good as it did on television. And that's what playing out of the back is. And I'm not poo pooing it. I'm not trying to grumpy old man this, because, let's be honest, it leads to a lot more action, leads to a lot more entertainment, and ultimately, it leads to a lot more goals. But we're seeing time and time again these gifts that are given in really, really dangerous areas.
And I'm sitting next to Peter Schmeichel a lot today. You know, he's screaming and yelling, and, why are you doing this? Why are you doing this? So it's not just me, it's not just an american opinion. It's not just my opinion out there.
I don't think it's going to change because I think this is the way that the game is going. And obviously, coaches and fans alike want this to happen. But from an old guy perspective, it's sometimes just insanity. What happens? Last point on Belgium, then we'll move on.
David Mossey
I don't think Castiles was at fault on the goal, but anytime they concede in this tournament, I am going to think about the fact that the best goalkeeper in the world is sitting home right now, because he doesn't get along with Tedesco and Tibur Courtois. I think Tedesco was hoping that injury would stretch out further so they could fuzzy it up and say, maybe him not being here is injury related, but then he comes back, plays great in the Champions League final, and so there's no way around it. This was a personal thing. And, boy, that's quite the call for Tedesco to leave out somebody like Courtois. All right, well, anyway, congratulations to Slovakia.
Alexi Lawless
Slovakia. To Slovakia. In terms of, you know, this historic win, it was wonderful to see and they have and should continue to celebrate this win. Remember, Belgium crashed out on the group stage of the last World cup. Off to a bad start here.
David Mossey
Next we go to Group D, a match that took place in Dusseldorf. France claimed a hard fought 100 win over Austria. The only goal was an own goal by austrian Max Wubber in the first half. So the French pick up three points. But I know you were proud of yourself after this one because you put Austria in your top ten of the power rankings.
A lot of people questioned that and you felt vindicated after their performance. I just think that, well, first off, I think that this was the best game so far, and it's a very young tournament, so there's plenty of games to come. But I thought in terms of the competitive nature of it, in terms of the quality on both sides, both individual and collective. And I think the balance of these two teams, and maybe from afar or on paper, people would not associate that, given the prowess of France. So they were kind of two separate but equal types of teams going at it, and they were just trading swings back and forth.
Alexi Lawless
And even in a game where the only goal is an own goal, I'm still confident saying that this is the most entertaining game that I've seen and not in an elitist, snobby way. I think no matter what, even if you don't know a whole lot about soccer and you watch this, I think that you would have been entertained and you could have been able to leave that game saying, you know what? There weren't a lot of goals. And the only goal that did happen was an own goal. But that was fun to watch.
And so I think that bodes well for, for both of these teams. Bigger story developing when it comes to France and this tournament is Killian Mbappe had to leave the game with what looks like a broken nose. I mean, he's a bleeder, folks. He's bleeding all over the place. A lot of blood left the.
Well, he left the game in that he went off the field and then chose to come back on the field, at which point, because he came back on the field without permission, he was given a yellow card, rightfully so. So now he's not only potentially going to have to continue on with a broken nose, and we've seen in the past where players have played with masks, but also with a yellow card going forward. Yeah. He was eventually replaced by the LAFC bound Olivier Giroud. Mbappe still without a goal at the euros.
David Mossey
He was shut out in the last one in four matches and then didn't score today. And you're right, he's going to have to play with a mask moving forward. We'll see how that affects him. I was interested in his positioning today. We talked about this in a production meeting and then on the pregame show, Peter Schmeichel was adamant that Mbappe needs to be on the left wing, doesn't like him down the middle.
It was interesting that Didier Deschamps went that route with Marcos. Two down on the left, Dembele on the right, Mbappe down the middle. Although it was very fluid, Mbappe was all over the place. So I would question that. Although Didier Deschamps got a couple of other decisions.
Right. The decision to bring N'Golla Kante back into the mix, what a player. Man of the match, him tracking down at different times. I mean, he was. So is Teo on the left hand side, in the left back position.
He's terrific as well. Yeah. Starting Conte over Comavinga, I think was vindicated. And then he got the center back combo, right. Salibnupa Meccano played very well.
And then, you know, the other thing about France that we don't talk about it enough. I mentioned Courtois earlier, they have a difference maker in goal and Mike Mignon was absolutely terrific. He denied Baumgartner in the first half, but I agree with you. Very good game. I love that austrian midfield, Baumgartner, limer and Sabitzer.
So, yeah, despite this result, I think they still have a very good chance to advance. They had only one defeat in 16 games going into this tournament. Ralph Ragnick's done a very good job there. Remember, he turned down Bayern Munich to coach Austria at this tournament. So he clearly felt like they had a chance to do something.
And I think based on today, he's probably right. Quick before we move on to the final game of the day. Yellow card accumulation is always something that you think about. And look, France is incredibly gifted with awesome talent. Now he's got a yellow card in the first game.
Alexi Lawless
If they were to find a way to be cruising in the second game, if he plays, let's say he goes on and plays, is there even a potential of thinking about getting a yellow card at the end of the second game? If the six points are already assured? Obviously, three teams go through from each group so as to assure that it. So that he sure that he doesn't get that third yellow card and miss a game? Yeah, no, I think it's something to think about.
If you take a yellow card in that second game, then he would miss the third game at a suspension, but then it would be back to zero, and he's a little safer going forward. Yeah, I think we could see that. One note on Mbappe. Peter Schmeichel made my day today at our production. Oh, here we go.
I knew this was coming. Yes, because we were going to have an Mbappe chat, and our producer, Johnny Arai wanted to get Peter comparing Mbappe to a player that he faced in his playing days. And Johnny Araya brought up the brazilian, Ronaldo. And Peter Schmeichel completely dismissed the comparison. Said Ronaldo's on a different level than Mbappe.
David Mossey
Ronaldo was the most incredible thing he's ever seen. And as you know, that's my favorite player of all time. My favorite human being. Frankly, I have the ten happiest moments in my life. He's responsible for, like, five of them.
So Peter Schmeichel made me very happy with those remarks, and then he followed. It up with saying his favorite player of all time is Diego Maradona. Exactly. Which you're okay with. Oh, absolutely.
Alexi Lawless
Right, fine. He's my favorite player, too, for what it's worth. Okay, let's go to Romania. Ukraine. Yes.
David Mossey
That was the first game of the day. It aired on Fubo. And, yeah, also a mild surprise. Now, this is an example of people based on the FIFA rankings tried to sell this to me as a massive upset, and I pushed back on that. I didn't put that on any script today because.
I'm sorry, it's just not. I know Romania is 46, Ukraine is 22, but, I mean, it doesn't hit me as like, being some monumental upset. Nevertheless, I was somewhat surprised because Ukraine is a team that I picked it out of this group. Maybe that was a little bit of heart, not head, and they got thumped. Three nil by Romania.
Romania. The goals, stanchu, Marin, Andragos. So a very good start for Romania. This tournament occurring 30 years after their incredible run to the quarterfinals at USA 94, led by George Hadji. His son, Giannis Hadji is on this team.
And here they are, off to a good start this summer. It was interesting because I was watching and I couldn't see the name, but at one point someone cut in and hit a left footed shot. I was like, that's gotta be his son. I mean, there's, there is. After all these years, there's still a.
Alexi Lawless
A familiar type of way of playing. The Stanchu goal was awesome, by the way. If you haven't seen it, I mean, from distance and it, you know, some of. There's some trends here that are going on. We mentioned the number of players that are scoring.
Now we're 26 different goals and 27 different players that have scored those goals. Also goals from outside of the area. We, coming into the day, we had eight different goals from outside of the area. So long distance shooting, which is something that is. It's not a lost start.
It's just, I think, more and more difficult, especially with the ability of goalkeepers. This one was upper 90. And it should be noted this also came from playing out of the back and mistake out of the back playing. Playing short that they capitalized on. So, Romania, congratulations on a 30 win.
Where should we go to now, my friend? Let's look ahead to tomorrow. We've got my pick as a dark horse for this tournament. Turkey. They will face Georgia, that game also airing on Fubo.
David Mossey
Looking at the Turkiye projected lineup, Arda Guler is not in there, which surprises me. I don't know if there's an injury that I might have missed, but he's a wonderful talent. I think he could be one of the breakout stars of this tournament if he gets on the field. Nevertheless, I'm excited to see the turkier fans. We know there's going to be a lot of them.
Georgia have a player who I love as well, Varazzkelia. So this should be an interesting one. In Group F. So today we were talking about tomorrow with Jules Breach, our host, and we informed her that Turkey was no longer turkey, it's Turkie. And that the Czech Republic or Czech is no longer that, but it is Czechia.
Alexi Lawless
And she didn't believe us. She thought we were pulling her leg. And even when we told her, I mean, the very practical reason of when you google Turkey, the first thing that came up was obviously the bird. And that's a problem for a country that from the english language is named Turkey. And so they rebranded.
So we will be calling it Turkey going forward. We will be calling it Czechia going forward. I agree with you when it comes to Turkey in terms of being a dark horse, I have them in my top ten for now. By the way, that top ten is going to change dramatically after this. Belgium.
Belgium lost today. And then should we move it on to the next game? And the piece resistance? Yes. And then the other group F game tomorrow is Portugal against Czechia in Leipzig.
David Mossey
Cristiano Ronaldo, when he steps on the field, will become the first player ever to feature in six different euros. He's scored in the previous five, so he's looking to make it six for six on that front as well. He's the all time leading score in euros history with 14 goals. He's the all time leading score in international history among men, period, with 130 goals. All time leader in appearances.
And it was interesting. We played the clip. Ruben Diaz had quite the quote about Ronaldo today in the press conference. He said, I would say he represents inspiration. He represents that everything is possible.
He represents that you can dream and you can achieve it. It's obviously a pleasure to have him with us in this moment of his career. He represents to us that he really wants to win again, and he's our captain. Obviously, we follow him to the end. But you wondered about that quote.
You feel like maybe the teammates feel pressured to say that, but that might not be deep down how they feel. I don't doubt that they love him and they respect him and many even have grown up and idolizing him and revere him, but it did look a little hostage videoy. I mean, and what are you going to say in a press conference where the team's already named in terms of who's on the roster? And Cristiano Ronaldo, this all time great player, is there with you? Are you going to say, yeah, I don't think that he should be starting.
Alexi Lawless
I think that he's too old. I think that we are better without him. And I think that the players, the coach and the federation are too scared to say that. Of course you're not. And so it was.
I'm not saying it's not genuine, but it's to be expected there. Nobody's going to get up and just slam Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, if and when, if and when he plays, what capacity is it? Is he a sub? Is he a happy sub?
Is he an angry sub? Is he a starter? Because when we were having the discussion on, on air, Peter Schmeichel seemed to think that it's not even a question if you bring him, you have to start him. And Roberto Martinez has navigated, at least till now, to a point where he's on the team and has he had a come to Jesus moment with him and said, listen, I'm going to bring you, but you have to accept, and not just willingly, but pleasantly accept this role. And you think that Cristiano Ronaldo is going to accept that role?
I don't know. So Peter seems to think that tomorrow, when the eleven comes out, Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be starting four. I agree with Peter. Ronaldo seems to have reasserted himself under Roberto Martinez. He scored a lot of goals in qualifying, albeit not against the toughest competition.
David Mossey
And it also helps that Gonzalo Ramos, the guy that took his place at the World cup, didn't have a particularly good season at PSG. So I think at the outset here, Ronaldo is once again going to be a focal point for this team. But it's going to be interesting to see if it remains that way over the course of the competition when they run up against tougher opponents in the knockout stage. Could he get dropped again the way it happened at the World cup? Now, I will say, I don't think he's going to be lacking for service because this Portugal lineup, we've talked about it.
I mean, Rafael Leon, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandez, Vicinha, I mean, they've got Juan Consello, they've got talent all over the place. So, Portugal, top. Top contender to win this tournament, and. Let'S be honest, there will be much harder opponents. And so if he is going to be a liability.
Alexi Lawless
Well, if he's a liability, it might not manifest until later on, at different times and sometimes at the worst possible moment. And one more record I miss. If he scores tomorrow, he'll be the oldest player to score in euros history. Wow. I mean, I'm here for it.
I'm here for the content, I'm here for the drama, good or bad, anywhere in between. And did you see the scenes of the training and the hotels? Look, it's not like you needed a graphic representation of how big this guy is, the amount of security that's needed, the thousands that are showing up just to watch this team train because of Cristiano Ronaldo. He is as big a star as Messi. He is as big a star as we have seen in this game.
David Mossey
And by the way, he's going up against Patrick Chic tomorrow. Check. Striker. Ronaldo and Sheik were the joint top scorers at the last euro, so it's pretty neat that they go head to head in their opening games of this tournament. You mentioned Fubo, so let's just get it out of the way here.
Alexi Lawless
Tomorrow, Turkey A and Georgia is also going to be on Fubo. We have three games left that are on Fubo. Turkey and Georgia on Tuesday, Slovakia and Ukraine on Friday, and Georgia Czechia on Saturday. If you notice, both Fubo games, the one today and the one tomorrow, made their way into the rundown. So we can put the whole Kyla Morris Fubo feud to bed.
David Mossey
I think that's over. Yeah, she's moved on. Okay. Should we head to one for the road here? Yep, let's do it.
Alexi Lawless
So I just wanted to give you a little peek behind the curtain, and in this case, behind the wardrobe and makeup curtain for those that have watched us over on Fox for any length of time. And even if you're just coming to it, you will see that production is very, very important. And we are in the business of how you say something is as important as what you say and how you look as part of that production. And we are incredibly fortunate to have some really, really talented men and women behind the scenes that make us look good. And in my case, I need all the help that I can possibly get.
It does take a village, and we have this village that comes together. So we have a whole wardrobe department. I mentioned that I was earlier downstairs seeing Carly Lloyd, who just got into town, and the wardrobe department is with her because as we all know, and we're all very, very happy about the fact that she is pregnant. So they're making sure that she is wearing stuff that she is comfortable. And sometimes you have to let people that are good at their job and these are the best at their job do their job.
Yes. You have to be comfortable. And I love the fact that these men and women will talk to you, almost interview you, to find out what you want to portray in terms of what you were wearing on camera. And it is an extension of who you are. And there is a spectrum of looks that we have had over the years.
And, yeah, we have some limitations as to what we feel at Fox is presentable. And that is made very, very clear to the talent that comes in on a temporary basis and certainly talent like myself that is there. But they will work with you. And I've been really, really fortunate. I worked at ESPN for a long time, and they did not have a wardrobe department.
And I was left to my own devices. And I will tell you now, even though from a men's perspective, it's not as noticeable. I worked a World cup where I wore the same blazer and a different tie and a white shirt the entire time. Now, I don't recommend that, but I could get away with it. And the first day that I got to Fox, I walked into this wardrobe department and I met all the people that worked there.
And I saw how they thought about what, on the surface looks like a little thing or a detail. But it is important because it represents you as a person. And I guess in this parlance of today, it would be your brand, but it also represents Fox. And they want to make sure that whatever is going on the air from a fox perspective looks good, and they will spend the money to make sure that it looks good. And so a shout out to the wardrobe folks out there.
And this same thing that I just said applies to our makeup, men and women that are just awesome. And they work so hard and they continue to evolve like all of us throughout a tournament. And they find out what you like, what you don't like. And they are there to make sure that all you have to worry about is what happens when you go on camera and they can't speak for you, but they make sure that you feel good with the things that you are wearing. And when you feel good, you ultimately come across on camera because you look good and you feel good about yourself.
So thank you very, very much. But if you ever thought about the stuff that goes on behind the scenes, that's just a little peek. And if you ever get a chance to meet them, I learned a lesson in that. I gave myself over to them and trusted the people that are good at what they do, in many cases, great at what they do and that are experts in the business. And I've seen people that haven't done that.
And either they suffer individually or they, they come around and they recognize these are good, good people that are the best at what they do. And you got to trust them. Will a pregnant Carly Lloyd still be willing to come on this pod this summer? She is definitely coming on the pod. She has been on the pod many, many times of four and some legendary appearances on the pod.
And it's just upstairs here. So we will definitely have Carly Lloyd on the pod. On the topic of behind the scenes, people, listen, you and I know that at this time of year, we play second fiddle to the now show. Yep. But it's a little ridiculous because it is getting ridiculous because the final whistle blows, they tape their show, and then we make our way up here as they're finishing up.

And it is an absolute sea of people. Every Fox digital executive, everybody from Nick Rago to Michael Buckland to Kat, is all here. Big party for their show. And then when we come on, everybody just clears out. Right now in the studio, it's you and I and two camera people who are looking at their watches and can't wait for this to be over so.

They can go home. I mean, I say it takes a village and it does. But the reality is, when it comes to the now show, evidently it takes a city. Okay, this is amazing what goes into this show. And to your point, it could not have been quicker in terms of turning his attention and all of his focus when it comes to Sean, producer Sean over there, and a lot of other people that at times we have been involved with.
And we are Persona non grata when it comes to what's going on. But you know what? We're bigger than that. And we are about quality, not quantity. And my friends, behind the scenes right here, we may be small, but we are strong and we are of quality.
Each and every one of these men and women. All right, so I will take them over that city of now. I ran into Kiara this morning and she apologized. She's working on the now show, and she apologized for not sticking around and saying hello to us. And she said she was gonna make a point of doing that today.

Did you see Kiara? Nope. Typical. Typical. All right, listen, we are coming to you each and every day live.
